Accounting Technicians Ireland: Professional Qualification
Programme Aim
Portarlington Further Education and Training Centre is an approved Partner of Accounting Technicians Ireland and also a Sage Certified Training Centre. Accounting Technicians Ireland awards the following two nationally and internationally recognised qualifications.
The Certificate for Accounting Technicians will help you to gain a professional qualification that will give you the important digital skills to work in this rapidly expanding sector.
- Taxation
- Business Management
- Financial Accounting
- Business Law
- Leaving Certificate grades (5 Ordinary Level)
- Leaving Certificate grades (2 Higher and 2 Ordinary Level)
- Minor Awared in Office Administration QQI Level 5M1997
- Minor Award in Business QQI Level 6M4985
- Completion of a Centre-Based Assessment
- Word Placement (1 or 2 days) are mandatory
- Prior Experience in a bookkeeping setting
- Good computer skills are necessary
- Aged 18 years old (minimum) on entry
- Completion of the BKSB Online Assessment
- Satisfactory interview process
Diploma for the Accounting Technicians Year 2 or Certificate in Business QQI Level 6M4985
On this course you will gain increased earning power, opportunity, mobility and in-demand financial skills with this island-wide, industry-recognised qualification for Accounting Technicians. You will get opportunities to continue further studies with exemptions in professional accountancy or to Degree.

Progression to third level – Business/Accounting Degree, Professional Accounting Bodies including CPA, ACCA and ACA.
- Employment – Accounting Practice, Administration in Industry, Accounting in Industry, Public Service position.
The Centre will cover the cost of annual student registration plus the course materials. This course is funds all Full Time VTOS and PLC students only.

Additional fees are payable directly to the Accounting Technicians Ireland by the learner for the cost of the books and materials, examination fees, exemption fees and referral fees.

Course Duration
Frequency: 5 days a week, over 1 year – Monday to Friday (includes 2 days works placement).

September 2024 – June 2025.
