Programme Aim
This programme introduces learners to the theories and practices of nursing care. it is a valuable foundation for students who wish to pursue a career as a State Registered Nurse (SRN) or as a Healthcare Assistant.

- Return to Learning Level 4 minor award or
- Leaving Certificate Student – CAO Points: 280 and O4 in English and Maths or above
- Basic Computer Skills in Microsoft Office Suite: Word and Outlook
- All students must satisfy a BKSB English and Mathematics and satisfactory interview process
- Satisfactory outcome of Garda Vetting
- Aged 18 years old (minimum) on entry
- Work placement of 150 hours are mandatory in a relevant healthcare setting.
On successful completion of this course graduates can apply to the Social and Vocational Integration Major Award at QQI Level 6 – 6M2218
This is a 1 year full time course
This course is offered free to learners.
*Course completion is reliant on Garda Vetting Process.
*Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board reserves the right to refuse course admission and/or completion.
Qualifcations are acceptable to secure employment across a wide range of healthcare settings to include the public, private and voluntary sectors. Common areas of employment include hospitals, residential homes and community nursing homes.
