Pattern Drafting

QQI Level 5 Pattern Drafting 

The QQI Level 5 Pattern Drafting module is a practical, vocational component designed to teach learners how to create two-dimensional templates (patterns) from measurements to produce three-dimensional garments. It focuses on transforming design sketches into working patterns that can be used for cutting and assembly.  

Upon completion of this module, learners will be able to: 

• Take accurate body measurements and use them to draft basic blocks (bodice, skirt, sleeve). 

• Manipulate patterns using techniques such as dart manipulation, slash-and-spread, and pivoting to create different styles. 

• Add necessary pattern details, including seam allowances, grainlines, notches, and labelling. 

• Draft and adapt patterns for both simple and complex garments, including 3D draping techniques. 
• Alter patterns to improve garment fit 

This course will run every Wednesday  morning from 9.00am – 12.00pm from September 2026 to May 2027
